Robert died on 28 July 2008, his 79th birthday after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis when he was admitted to hospital in May 2008. It all happened very quickly and was completely unexpected. The donations kindly made in lieu of funeral flowers have been given to the BLF for research into pulmonary fibrosis and further sums will be added in due course as they are raised.
